You may sign up for benefits within thirty (30) days from the date you started employment, during the annual open enrollment for benefits with an effective date of March 1st and major life changes. You have a thirty (30) day window from when these events occur, to make changes to your benefits. You will also need a marriage/civil union certificate (if applicable), and/or birth certificate(s) in order to add dependent(s) to the benefit plans. Please submit a copy of these documents to the Office of Human Resources.

It depends on the situation when it comes to terminating your benefits. Yes, if you do not flex your deductions or you have an IRS qualifying event, you can terminate your benefits. No, if you are flexing your benefit deductions. Benefit coverage runs on a plan year basis and can be changed or terminated during the annual open enrollment with an effective date of 3/1.
